Keith Nelson on humility

I believe we all recognise it's important that an organisation has a core proposition of values that it wants its staff to buy into. One that's often under-rated is humility, or humbleness.

Not long ago I enjoyed listening to a senior director make a presentation to staff from another organisation who were being merged into his company. It's probably not the easiest of presentations to make at the best of times.  He gave a very honest, understated and humble presentation on the work that was ongoing, what had been achieved what needed to be achieved. It was very successful in getting a lot of buy-in because his audience, a group of highly intelligent people, were connecting with him as an individual. He wasn't trying to over-sell, he was just telling it as it was. He connected so well that, at the end, he was given a well-deserved round of applause.
