Keith Nelson on cultural diversity

Last Friday afternoon, I said 'goodbye' to a group of nine delegates who had just completed a coaching programme that I had facilitated.

There were nine delegates altogether - an Englishwoman living in England, two Indian men who had moved to England, an Englishman now living in Germany, a Greek woman, a Spanish man, a German woman, an Argentinean woman who lives in Holland (but is about to move to Denmark) and a New Zealand woman who lives in Australia.  As I drove the relatively short distance to my home, I was left to reflect upon the cultural richness that all ten of us had enjoyed while together.

I and my colleagues are currently doing a lot of facilitation (and developmental work) around coaching and mentoring across cultures and the event served to reinforce the benefits that can be gained from creating a truly diverse environment within which to learn and work.

It never ceases to amaze me what can be achieved when people are open to learning and prepared to be open with and share experiences with each other.  So, if you are one of the nine delegates who attended - thanks, your presence was inspirational.
